The Ducks will ring in December by hosting the Ottawa Senators on Sunday in a matchup of teams that are an eyelash under .500 with designs on gaining some upward momentum. They’ll enter the clash with identical .477 points percentages that situate them near the bottom of their respective divisions but not far behind a crowded pack of middling clubs. The Ducks have had more of a defensive inclination while the Senators have shown more scoring pop to date. Ducks coach Greg Cronin said his team hadn’t “had too many stinkers” of late, and that’s been reflected by their 5-3-1 record across their past nine games, with four of their five-plus-goal games this season arriving in that span. “Since we got back from that New York trip, I think we’ve been on a pretty good path in terms of playing with an identity and competing,” Cronin said. They had to grind hard on Black Friday, when they played what Cronin described as something of a postseason-style game against the Kings at Honda Center. Though they fell 2-1 to what veteran forward Ryan Strome described as a “mature, veteran team” that they couldn’t quite edge past despite playing a “disciplined, structured and north-south” game, the Ducks still felt they carried forward some positive indicators from their recent play. “It was a good hockey game. We competed hard. I thought we dictated a lot of the game. We played similar to the way we’ve been playing,” Strome said. Kings coach Jim Hiller concurred. With teams frequently playing the Southern California franchises back to back, he and Cronin get constant looks at one another’s teams during pre-scouts, and Hiller assessed the Ducks’ performance quite favorably. “I thought – we’ve played them this year, I’ve scouted them this year – I thought that’s the best game they’ve played this year. I thought they played very well,” Hiller said. Time will tell if Sunday’s match elicits similar plaudits from Ottawa coach Travis Green, who spent parts of two seasons with the Ducks as a player and is in his first year as the Sens’ head coach after previously guiding the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils briefly. Though Brock McGinn has made some progress in his return, he and Robby Fabbri remained unavailable. So, too, did Leo Carlsson, whose upper-body injury has kept him out of the Ducks’ past two matches. Cam Fowler will be a game-time decision. Related Articles Troy Terry has four points across his three-game scoring streak, while Trevor Zegras just snapped a four-gamer that saw him compile six points. For Ottawa, forwards Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson each have seven points in the Sens’ past five outings. Captain Brady Tkachuk, whom Cronin suggested could be a model for his own power forward Mason McTavish, has racked up five points during a three-game surge. Those are the three Senators scoring above a point per game this season, with Stützle’s 28 points in 22 games leading the way. Lea Thompson and Michael J. Fox 's relationship started out a tad heavy. While the duo made history as mother-son duo Lorraine Baines and Marty McFly in 1985's Back to the Future , Lea revealed that she and Michael didn't hit it off right away. "I remember specifically being really snooty 'cause there was a big division between movie stars and TV stars at that point," she explained on the Still Here Hollywood podcast in September. "It's not as much, that's for sure. It's not the same as it was then." But at the time, it was a big deal for Lea, who had just started to make a name for herself on the silver screen, while Michael was starring on the sitcom Family Ties . "I remember being like, 'He's just a TV star. And I'm a movie star. I was in Jaws 3D ,'" she joked. "So I think it took me a while to warm up to him." Her relationship with Michael was also tinged by the fact that he had replaced actor Eric Stoltz in the film, who Lea had just worked with on 1984's The Wild Life . Eric had originally been cast as Marty, but five weeks into filming, producers allegedly felt he wasn't the right fit for the role. But after Michael replaced him, Lea shared that they eventually found their groove on set. "He was so funny and so fun to act with," the 63-year-old recalled. "‘Cause I had done some scenes with Eric already, and then had to redo them with Michael. So I could see how they were completely different scenes." Michael's replacement of Eric has become part of Hollywood lore over the past 40 years, especially because the reshoots reportedly added an additional $4 million to Back to the Future 's budget. And while Michael had been the producer's original choice for the role of Marty, he initially had to decline because of his commitment to Family Ties , according to writer and producer Bob Gale . Once he was cast, however, the filming schedule was rearranged to fit the time he had. And it was an intense schedule, with Michael, now 63, filming Family Ties during the day, then heading to the Back to the Future set from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.—and trying to find time to sleep between shoots. "It was my dream to be in the film and television business, although I didn't know I'd be in them simultaneously," he joked during a 1985 TV special. "It was just this weird ride and I got on." While Lea and Michael were able to mend their relationship on set (and went on to costar in 1989's Back to the Future Part II and 1990's Back to the Future Part III ), keep reading to see which Hollywood feuds are still going strong. Tan France vs. Bobby Berk Bobby (pictured second from left) addressed rumors of a falling out with Tan (middle) in January 2024, two months after he announced his exit from Queer Eye after eight seasons. "I want people to know that Tan and I—we will be fine," he told Vanity Fair . "There was a situation, and that's between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing—and nothing romantic, just to clarify that." In March 2024, Tan responded to allegations that he had campaigned to replace Bobby on Queer Eye with his friend Jeremiah Brent . "Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting. I didn't put my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job," he said on Instagram. "But I didn't get them hired by getting rid of somebody else." Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano Following years of rumors of a feud between the two, on a December 2023 episode of her podcast Let's Be Clear , Shannen's former Charmed costar Holly Marie Combs alleged that Alyssa had once made an ultimatum to a show producer to choose between herself and Shannen, which ultimately led to the latter leaving the show in 2001. In February 2024, Alyssa said on Instagram, "I did not have the power to get anyone fired" and that "this was so long ago that any retelling of these stories from anyone is just revisionist history." A day later, Shannen said at a panel event at MegaCon Orlando , "There is no revisionist history happening in the truth that I know we told." In September 2023, while playing a game called Stir the Pot with her daughter Kelly Osbourne on E! News , Sharon said the That '70s Show alum was the rudest celebrity she had ever met, branding him, a "rude, rude, rude, rude little boy" and a "Dastardly little thing." He did not respond to her remarks publicly. Five years prior, Sharon told Larry King that when Ashton appeared on The Talk in 2014, he had an "attitude" after she got his name wrong. "He goes, 'What are you, what have you done in this industry?'" she recalled. "And I was like, 'Kid, don't start with me, because I'm gonna eat you up and s--t you out.' So I was just like, 'You don't know what you're dealing with, kid.'" In August 2022, Cassadee and Maren traded harsh words with Brittany , wife of fellow country star Jason Aldean , after she shared an Instagram Reel of herself applying makeup on Aug. 23, writing, "I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life." JoJo Siwa vs. Candace Cameron Bure During a 2022 TikTok challenge, JoJo Siwa described Candace Cameron Bure as the "rudest" celebrity, later explaining that she felt snubbed when Bure once refused to take a picture with her on a red carpet. Shortly after the dig, however, the Full House alum apologized: "I kind of broke your 11-year-old heart. I didn't take a picture with you. Ugh! I feel crummy, I feel—JoJo, I'm so sorry." The two made amends. But months later, Candace was asked if she expects the Great American Family network, of which she serves as chief creative officer, to feature same-sex couples as leads in holiday movies. She said no, adding, "I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core." JoJo, who came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, wrote on Instagram that the actress' comment is "rude and hurtful to a whole community of people." Courtney Love vs. Olivia Rodrigo Back in June 2021, Courtney Love accused Olivia Rodrigo of copying her band Hole 's album cover for a promotional photo without giving credit. Olivia responded, "Love u and live through this sooooo much." Courtney then replied, "Olivia - you're welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji]." During an appearance Watch What Happens Live , the Happy Days actor was asked why he didn't get along with the Forrest Gump star on the set of the 1989 flick Turner & Hooch . "I was directing that movie for 13 days and then I was called into [producer] Jeff Katzenberg 's office and he said, 'You have everything with you? Go home,'" he said. Winkler did, however, seem to get along with Hanks' four-legged co-star. "I got along great, great with that dog," he said. "Love that dog." He also refused to admit if he's even seen the flick. "You know what you did!" Fans of The Hills will remember that iconic line, delivered by Lauren on the season three premiere. Their feud began when Heidi started dating her now-husband, Spencer Pratt and hit its peak when Lauren accused Heidi and Spencer of starting a rumor that she had made a sex tape with Jason Wahler . Dwayne Johnson vs. Tyrese Gibson The costars reignited their ongoing feud when Tyrese publicly called out Dwayne on Instagram after the Fast and Furious 9 release date was pushed back to April 2020. That same day, it was announced that a Fast and Furious spinoff starring Dwayne and Jason Statham would hit theaters in 2019. The following month, Tyrese threatened to quit Fast 9 if Dwayne was in the movie. Tyrese then opened up about the feud , telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast, "I have yet to talk to The Rock to this day, and we will have a conversation." He shared that he did have a conversation with the former wrestler's producing partner, but not the actor himself. "I found myself being the messenger on behalf of various people associated to the franchise, but stupid me was the only one who went public about those feelings, which is my own fault," Tyrese said. "It's not professional, it's not cool." No more bad blood here. Taylor and Katy had been in a feud for years, even allegedly inspiring Taylor's song "Bad Blood." The drama, which reportedly started over a backup dancer and competing tours, came to an end after Perry sent Taylor a literal olive branch before her Reputation Tour kickoff. "So I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch," Taylor said in an Instagram video. "This mean so much." Taylor captioned the video, "Thank you Katy." Sex and the City costars Kim and SJP had dodged feud rumors for years. But they were reignited after Kim decided not to return for a third movie and made comments about her costar that raised eyebrows. "What was your reaction to Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan that you were never friends just colleagues?" Andy Cohen asked SJP on a Sept. 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live . As she explained, "Just...heartbroken. I mean that whole week, you and I spoke about it because I was just...I don't know I found it really upsetting because that's, you know, that's not the way I recall our experience." "So...it's sad but I'm kind of...I don't know, I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience is the thing. It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives. So I'm hoping that that sort of eclipses anything that's been recently spoken," she continued. "That many years spent doing something so special that people had a connection with is such a privileged." And though they didn't film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That . The iconic singers have been feuding since 2004. While accepting the Classic Songwriter Award at the Q Awards that year, Elton said to attendees, "Madonna, best f--king live act? F--k off! Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs in public on stage, when you pay like 75 quid to see them, should be shot." The former Grey's Anatomy star sparked a feud with the series creator in 2008 when she removed her name from the Emmy Awards consideration. The actress stated that her reason for the move was because she wasn't "given the material to warrant a nomination." Shonda later opened up about Katherine's decision during an interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah's Next Chapter in 2012. "On some level it stung and on some level I was not surprised," she said. "When people show you who they are, believe them. I carry that [mantra] with me a lot. It has served me well." It was the New York Fashion Week fight heard 'round the world when Nicki and Cardi got into a heated altercation at the Harper's Bazaar Icon party. The following month, Cardi opened up about the catalyst for the fight with Nicki. "For a while now she's been taking a lot of shots at me," Cardi said in W magazine 's Art Issue. "I spoke to her twice before, and we came to an understanding. But she kept it going." The real spark of the fight came when Cardi saw that Nicki had allegedly liked and then unliked a tweet about Cardi's parenting skills, which Nicki has denied. "I was going to make millions off my Bruno Mars tour, and I sacrificed that to stay with my daughter," Cardi continued. "I love my daughter. I'm a good-ass f--king mom. So for somebody that don't have a child to like that comment? So many people want to say that party wasn't the time or the place, but I'm not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block." Tension between Kanye and Taylor first started in 2009, when the "Stronger" rapper took the stage during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. Years later, the two would make up and even become friends, but that came to an end after the release of his song "Famous," in which he name-checks the "End Game" singer. "I don't know her." It's been over 15 years since Mariah and J.Lo's "feud" has been going on. It all started when the Queen of Christmas was asked to give her opinion on several singers during an interview. When asked her opinion on Jennifer, she replied, "I don't know her."
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Spencer Knight made 20 saves, Mackie Samoskevich scored with less than a second left in the second period, and the Florida Panthers got four goals in the third to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-0 on Saturday and complete a two-day sweep. Aleksander Barkov, Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad, Evan Rodrigues and Adam Boqvist also scored for Florida, which won 6-3 at Carolina on Friday. The Panthers have won three straight — that streak following a stretch of six losses in seven games for the Stanley Cup champions. It was Knight's fourth career shutout, his first since Nov. 9, 2022 — also at home against Carolina. Spencer Martin made 23 saves on 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four of their last six games (2-3-1). It was Martin's fourth consecutive start for Carolina. Hurricanes: This was the first time all season that the Hurricanes failed to get a point in the game immediately following a loss. Carolina was 4-0-1 after a defeat entering Saturday. Panthers: A big day for Samoskevich — his alma mater Michigan beat Ohio State in football on Saturday, that game ending just before the Florida-Carolina game started. The Panthers are 5-0-0 when he scores this season. Sam Reinhart had each of the four most recent Florida goals at 19:59, before Samoskevich got his Saturday. The Panthers scored two goals 11 seconds apart in the third to make it 5-0, and Yaniv Perets replaced Martin in the Hurricanes' net with 8:12 remaining. It was the second NHL appearance for Perets, who came on once in relief for Carolina last season. Ekblad's goal was his first in a span of 1,045 regular-season shifts since Feb. 20. Carolina starts a two-game homestand Tuesday against Seattle. Florida goes to Pittsburgh to start a two-game trip on Tuesday. AP NHL: https://www.apnews.com/hub/NHLThis holiday season is one that Jay Wheeler and Zhamira Zambrano will cherish forever. The couple welcomed their first child together , daughter Aiuni, in September, and celebrated their first year of marriage on Dec. 2. Now, as a gift ahead of the most wonderful time of year, they are exclusively premiering the music video for their new Christmas song “Santa” on TODAY.com. The song is a melancholic tune about missing someone on Christmas and hoping to get them back. The accompanying visual is a timeless concept, with Wheeler and Zambrano elegantly dressed as they belt out the emotional lyrics on stage, apart and then together. They're also accompanied by dancers dressed in festive attire. “When people create a great Christmas song, it lasts forever,” Wheeler tells TODAY.com in Spanish about the song's inspiration. “So I told my wife, let’s make a Christmas song together so that every Christmas, people will play it when they are sad. And because we make sad songs, it had to be a sad Christmas song.” “Santa” marks the pair’s third collaboration following their hits “Dicelo” and “Extrañandote.” Zambrano adds that they opted for a different take on a holiday tune, deciding to look at the “ desamor ,” or heartbreak that many people experience during this time of year. “It’s a bittersweet song,” she says, adding she hopes their fans embrace it as much as they have their past collaborations. The couple, who have yet to show their daughter's face on social media, didn't include Aiuni in the music video — but they already have an idea of when they might. “We thought about including our daughter, but I want to include her in another song I have,” Wheeler says. The pair is excited to celebrate their baby girl's first Christmas together and host their first holidays at their new home. Wheeler shares that he made sure to put up Christmas lights specifically for his daughter. They're also looking forward to new and old traditions as a family of three. “My parents would always make us believe in El Niño Jesús and Santa, that they would come at 12 and deliver the gifts,” Zambrano says. “I always thought that was so much fun. When I found out that it wasn’t real, I was really sad because I feel like I kind of lost a little bit of that magic of Christmas. But now I get to live it all over again with my baby, and have a couple of years of making magic for her every year.” For Wheeler, he wants to make sure his daughter's first Christmas is special and memorable. “So when she’s older and sees photos, she says, ‘You did this for me?’ And I can say, ‘Yes, because it was your first Christmas.'” Calling each other “ mejores amigos ,” Wheeler says parenthood has strengthened their relationship because “nos amamos bonitos ,” adding in Spanish: “I make sure she’s OK, she makes sure I’m OK... We are always adapting to every change that comes our way.” Zambrano adds, “We are more of a team now that we have the baby, because we have to work together in order to get everything running. Right now, we’re doing a bunch of things, but since we’re doing it together, it’s a bit easier. I feel like it has helped us grow as a couple, as a team, and I just think she makes us stronger.” Fans can expect more music from the twosome, as they teased something in the works. “We love making music together,” Zambrano says. “We have a couple of songs already recorded, but we have something else in the works for that, maybe another project later on. But for now, I hope everyone enjoys this one that we did with so much love.”

KILLINGTON, Vt. — American skier Mikaela Shiffrin said she suffered an abrasion on her left hip and that something “stabbed” her when she crashed during her second run of a World Cup giant slalom race Saturday, doing a flip and sliding into the protective fencing. Shiffrin stayed down on the edge of the course for quite some time as the ski patrol attended to her. She was taken off the hill on a sled and waved to the cheering crowd before going to a clinic for evaluation. “Not really too much cause for concern at this point, I just can’t move,” she said later in a video posted on social media . “I have a pretty good abrasion and something stabbed me. ... I’m so sorry to scare everybody. It looks like all scans so far are clear.” She plans to skip the slalom race Sunday, writing on Instagram she will be “cheering from the sideline.” The 29-year-old was leading after the first run of the GS and charging for her 100th World Cup win. She was within sight of the finish line, five gates onto Killington’s steep finish pitch, when she an outside edge. She hit a gate and did a somersault before sliding into another gate. The fencing slowed her momentum as she came to an abrupt stop. Reigning Olympic GS champion Sara Hector of Sweden won in a combined time of 1 minute, 53.08 seconds. Zrinka Ljutic of Croatia was second and Swiss racer Camille Rast took third. The Americans saw Paula Moltzan and Nina O’Brien finish fifth and sixth. “It’s just so sad, of course, to see Mikaela crash like that and skiing so well,” Hector said on the broadcast after her win. “It breaks my heart and everybody else here.” The crash was a surprise for everyone. Shiffrin rarely DNFs — ski racing parlance for “did not finish.” In 274 World Cup starts, she DNF'd only 18 times. The last time she DNF'd in GS was January 2018. Shiffrin also has not suffered any devastating injuries. In her 14-year career, she has rehabbed only two on-hill injuries: a torn medial collateral ligament and bone bruising in her right knee in December 2015 and a sprained MCL and tibiofibular ligament in her left knee after a downhill crash in January 2024. Neither knee injury required surgery, and both times, Shiffrin was back to racing within two months. Saturday was shaping up to be a banner day for Shiffrin, who skied flawlessly in the first run and held a 0.32-second lead as she chased after her 100th World Cup win. Shiffrin, who grew up in both New Hampshire and Colorado and sharpened her skills at nearby Burke Mountain Academy, has long been a fan favorite. Shiffrin is driven not so much by wins but by arcing the perfect run. She has shattered so many records along the way. She passed Lindsey Vonn’s women’s mark of 82 World Cup victories on Jan. 24, 2023, during a giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy. That March, Shiffrin broke Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark’s Alpine mark for most World Cup wins when she captured her 87th career race. To date, she has earned five overall World Cup titles, two Olympic gold medals — along with a silver — and seven world championships. In other FIS Alpine World Cup news, the Tremblant World Cup — two women’s giant slaloms at Quebec’s Mont-Tremblant scheduled for next weekend — were canceled. Killington got 21 inches of snow on Thanksgiving Day, but Tremblant — five hours north of Killington — had to cancel its races because of a lack of snow.
