Two stipends for Artists in Berlin at Sammlung Hoffmann

We invite artists to develop and exhibit new works in dialogue with the upcoming presentation of the Sammlung Hoffmann.

Sammlung Hoffmann is a private art collection featuring works from the 1920s through the 2010s, which has been displayed in the living and working spaces of Erika and Corinna Hoffmann in Berlin since 1997. We showcase various aspects of our collection by placing artworks in relation with current social topics in annually changing presentations.

Who can apply?

We are awarding two concurrent working stipends to artists living in Berlin. All artistic practices and media are welcome.

A background in art studies as well as exhibition experience are desirable.

What do we offer?

As part of TIME WITH SOPHIE GIPS, works are created in dialogue with the theme of the collection presentation or in engagement with individual works (collection presentation: 17 October 2026 – October 2027).

Stipend recipients will begin developing their work in November 2026 and will present it from January through October 2027 in the collection spaces as part of the ongoing presentation.

Regular meetings with us will take place during the development period. Independent and self-organized working practices are expected throughout.

Additionally, we invite participants to take part in a public artist talk / lecture at the collection.

Application Materials

Please send us:

  • Letter of motivation (approx. 1–2 pages), focusing on your interest in dialogue with other works or collection holdings
  • Portfolio including existing works and brief work descriptions (PDF, max. 20 pages, max. 3 MB) and/or audio and video files (links to video platforms or WeTransfer). Submitted files will be deleted upon conclusion of the application process.
  • Your CV
  • Optional: your project outline (approx. 1–2 pages). We can provide the concept for the upcoming presentation upon request.

Scope of Funding

Both stipends are funded at €5,000 gross each. This amount covers the artist fee as well as production and transport costs. An itemized expense report is not required; no additional costs can be claimed.

Payment will be made in two installments:

  • €3,000 at the start, in early November 2026
  • €2,000 upon deinstallation and return transport of the work in October 2027

The resulting work remains the property of the artists and is not transferred to the Sammlung Hoffmann collection.

The collection and  library are accessible by arrangement.

Milestones and dates for interim content discussions will be planned together following the selection process.
