For a radio station that doesn't care about ratings, 2MBS Fine Music Sydney has found an audience of loyal listeners all over the world. Veteran Drive program presenter Michael Morton-Evans even has one dedicated fan on the Isle of Wight in the UK, who sits by her fireplace to listen to his show. 2MBS was Australia's very first station on the FM radio band, hitting the airwaves at noon on December 15, 1974, beating Melbourne's 3MBS and Brisbane's 4ZZZ by a matter of months. The station in Sydney's St Leonards is celebrating 50 years of filling the airwaves with music - classical for the most part, but also jazz, blues and other genres. Morton-Evans has penned a history of 2MBS to mark the milestone, and believes it's the only volunteer-run station in the world to have lasted half a century. "It means everything to real lovers of classical music, we all love doing it, they all love listening to it," he told AAP. Ahead of a recent program, he's in the studio lining up traffic alerts and weather reports and just the right music to keep Sydney motorists calm during peak hour, starting with Russian composer Anton Arensky and Frenchman Georges Bizet. On a good day, the FM radio signal travels all the way to Newcastle and Wollongong, and Berrima in the southern highlands, while listeners further afield can tune in via the station's online stream and listening app. Three times a day the flow of classical music is interrupted by jazz programs, for those who happen to like that sort of thing, said Morton-Evans. "There's a sort of feeling around here among the jazz people that I don't like jazz, but it's not true - I do like jazz," he said. "Our jazz presenters are fantastic, they are so knowledgeable, they're almost worth listening to." One of those presenters, Jeannie McInnes, airs her popular program Jazz Rhythm with a different topic each week, ranging from Jackson Pollock's jazz playlist, to the sound of the colour green. "If you just want to hear the music, put on Spotify - if you want to learn something about the music, listen to the radio," she told AAP. Presenters such as Planet Jazz host Xavier Bichon revel in music of all kinds: a recent weekend saw him at a classical performance in the afternoon, and a Pearl Jam concert a few hours later. 2MBS does not rely on government grants and is entirely funded by its loyal listeners, some of whom have been very generous indeed. In 2010 one donor, Stefan Kruger, left the station $3 million in his will, enabling 2MBS to build a recording studio complete with grand piano, broadcast studios and a massive music library. Though most of the library is stored digitally these days, old technology is still kept on stand by including turntables, a reel to reel tape player, and a cassette deck. Before there was any of this equipment - or even a station to broadcast from - David James was the very first manager of 2MBS, helping it win a broadcast licence. Half a century later he still volunteers at the station, probably because he likes punishment, he jokes. "Radio is in my blood ... I just don't want to look at any other voluntary job anywhere." It's the people as much as the music, helped by the station's monthly wine and pizza nights, he said. There's also tea, coffee and biscuits on hand to fuel the station's 200 volunteers, such as former presenter Di Cox, 84. Cox has been volunteering at the station for 45 years and is still a regular visitor, selecting music for an upcoming program From Handel to Haydn. "Obviously I love it, because I've always said I'll never leave," she said. 2MBS is marking its milestone with a special retrospective program on Sunday at midday - exactly 50 years to the hour since its very first broadcast. It will also host a station open day on February 1, to commemorate its very first such event 50 years ago.

Arguments over whether Luigi Mangione is a 'hero' offer glimpse into unusual American moment
The week is highlighted by the three-game Thanksgiving slate, but there is still plenty of action to take advantage of Sunday's main slate. We have 10 matchups to analyze and there are plenty of ways to put together a strong DFS lineup for these games. In DFS, it all comes down to finding edges over your opponents or the field. There are plenty of ways to attack this slate and find edges over other players, but we are given a finite salary, so we have to get a bit creative. But without further ado, here are the Sporting News' optimal lineups and best picks for Week 8 DFS slates on both DraftKings and FanDuel . DraftKings DFS Picks Week 13: NFL DFS picks for GPP tournaments Sunday Main Slate, $50,000 salary QB: Russell Wilson, Steelers at Bengals ($5,700) Russell Wilson has had his moments as the Steelers' starter this season, leading them to four wins in five starts and eclipsing 19 DK points twice in the process. Wilson requires multiple touchdowns to reach his weekly ceiling, but we can see him do just that this week. The Bengals have struggled to contain opposing passing attacks this season, ranking 24th in EPA per dropback and have allowed multiple passing touchdowns in six games this season. Cincinnati will also be down multiple cornerbacks and will be starting Cam Taylor-Britt, who has allowed the third-most receiving yards this season according to PFF, and Josh Newton, a fifth-round rookie. If the Cincinnati offense pushes the Steelers into a pass-heavy approach, Wilson could crack 300 yards for the first time in a Steelers uniform. WEEK 13 FANTASY FOOTBALL RANKINGS QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/ST | Kickers RB: Bucky Irving, Buccaneers at Panthers ($5,800) Could we be seeing a changing of the guard in the Tampa Bay backfield? In Week 12, Bucky Irving played more snaps and ran more routes than Rachaad White, his first time accomplishing either of these feats. Irving also dominated in that game, racking up 151 yards from scrimmage, a career-high. Irving will be quite chalky against the Carolina Panthers, the premier matchup for running backs in fantasy, but this is too good of a spot to pass up. RB: Kimani Vidal, Chargers at Falcons ($4,000) J.K. Dobbins has already been ruled out this week, leaving the Chargers with Gus Edwards, Hassan Haskins, and Kimani Vidal in the backfield. Edwards will likely get the first crack at the RB1 duties, but he is anything but secure in this role. His nine carry, 11-yard performance on Monday Night Football all but confirmed that he is a replaceable back. If Edwards struggles early, don't be shocked if Vidal gets an opportunity to take the reigns in this backfield. It also helps that Vidal is the only back with pass-catching chops out of this trio. Gus Edwards has 39 targets in six NFL seasons, and Haskins does not have a target since 2022. So at a minimum, we know he's the favorite to play on passing downs with the potential for his role to expand over the course of the game. Considering the wide receivers in this lineup, we had to swing for the fences somewhere, and Vidal is a solid option to fill that need. WR: A.J. Brown, Eagles at Ravens ($8,300) Since his return from a hamstring injury, A.J. Brown's underlying metrics have shown an elite receiver. His 30-percent target share and 50-percent air yards share are all you can ask for in a receiver. Unfortunately, his production has lagged behind, largely due to the Eagles' run-heavy mentality. Well, with the Ravens on the schedule this week, the Eagles could finally be forced to sling the rock. This game has the highest total on the slate, and we're going to go with Brown in this matchup. WR: Nico Collins, Texans at Jaguars ($7,900) It's safe to say Nico Collins is all the way back. Last week, his route participation shot up to 83 percent, and he was the focal point of the passing attack, accounting for 27 percent of the targets and 41 percent of the air yards. Collins cleared 20 DK points last week, a number we've consistently seen him hit this season. This week could be Collins' official "I'm back" game for the masses of NFL fans. The Texans get the Jaguars this week, a defense that Collins already torched for 150 yards and 36.1 DK points earlier this year. This is a premium matchup for wide receivers in general, but it's especially juicy for Collins as the Jaguars utilize man coverage at the 2nd-highest rate in the league. Collins averages a ridiculous 0.32 targets per route run and 3.94 yards per route run against man coverage this season. Collins' calling card throughout the season has been explosive plays, and he could have a few of them in this one. WEEK 13 FANTASY ROSTER MANAGEMENT ADVICE Stock Watch | Start 'Em, Sit 'Em | Sleepers | Busts | Usage Report | Flex Finder | Weather WR: George Pickens, Steelers at Bengals ($6,800) With Russell Wilson on the roster, it shouldn't be a surprise that we'll be pairing him with his go-to receiver, George Pickens. Pickens has flourished with Wilson under center, scoring at least 16.9 DK points in three of five games and clearing 20 points twice. Pickens' usage has been elite, drawing targets on 26 percent of his routes for an average of 8.0 targets per game with Wilson. The Bengals will be thin at corner, and Pickens should be able to exploit a favorable matchup for yet another big day alongside Wilson. TE: Dalton Schultz, Texans at Jaguars ($3,300) Running back wasn't the only position where we had to utilize a salary-saver. We'll be using Dalton Schultz as a budget-friendly option at tight end. Quite simply, Schultz is a touchdown-or-bust option, but this is a good week to bet on him hauling one in. Jacksonville has the No. 30 scoring defense in the NFL and have allowed 30 or more points five times this season. Houston should have several red zone drives in this one, and we're betting on Schultz to cap one off. FLEX: Michael Pittman Jr., Colts at Patriots ($5,200) Michael Pittman just had his best game in several weeks, leading the Colts in targets for the first time since Week 7 and scoring 15 DK points for the first time since Week 4. Pittman is likely to continue to operate as a high-volume receiver who can be of value on a PPR site like DraftKings. Josh Downs suffered a shoulder injury last week and is considered week-to-week, opening the door for Pittman to be the lone target earner in this offense. At a price of $5,200, he's a solid bet due to his projected volume this week against the Patriots. D/ST: Indianapolis Colts, at Patriots ($2,800) The Colts' defense has not been great this season, but the Patriots' offense hasn't looked much better. The offensive line is arguably the worst in the league, and there is no true WR1 in New England. The Patriots require some heroics from Drake Maye every week, and if that doesn't happen, the offense tends to struggle. FanDuel DFS Picks Week 13: NFL DFS picks for GPP tournaments Sunday Main Slate, $60,000 salary cap QB: Russell Wilson, Steelers at Bengals ($7,500) Russell Wilson will be a staple in both of our lineups this week and comes in at $7,500 on FanDuel. The Steelers have an implied team total of 22 points, and they could easily pass this mark if Joe Burrow and company keep their foot on the gas and force Wilson to make a few big plays. If Wilson can find the endzone two or three times, he'll pay off at this salary. RB: Chase Brown, Bengals vs. Steelers ($7,300) Chase Brown will be functioning as our bring-back for the Russell Wilson stack. Over the Bengals' last three games, Brown has been utterly dominant. He's played 85 percent of snaps and handled every single running back touch. There's a good chance Khalil Herbert takes a few touches now that he has become acclimated to the offense, but expect to see Brown in a bell cow role. Brown has looked good as a rusher, ranking top-15 in explosive rush rate, missed tackles forced per attempt, and yard after contact per attempt. He's now locked down the receiving work (23 targets in the last three weeks) and goal line role that has allowed his value to skyrocket. He's a strong play with an RB16 price tag on FanDuel. RB: Bucky Irving, Buccaneers at Panthers ($7,200) Bucky Irving is another player who is carrying over from our DraftKings lineup. As mentioned in the previous write-up, we may have seen Irving take over the Tampa Bay backfield last week. Even if Rachaad White returns to having a slight edge over Irving, this is still a game where Irving can thrive in a "1B" role. The Panthers allow the most points to running backs this season and Irving could easily run all over them with just 12 carries. WR: Puka Nacua, Rams at Saints ($8,700) Since returning from injury, it's become quite clear that Puka Nacua is the preferred fantasy option in the Rams' offense. From Week 8 on, Nacua has the edge over Cooper Kupp in target rate, fantasy points per route run, yards per route run, and first-read target share. Nacua now gets the Saints' defense which has been a bottom-5 unit against the pass this season. Before their bye last week, Jameis Winston torched them for 377 yards through the air. The Saints have had no answers for quality WR play this season, allowing 90-plus yards to six different receivers in 11 games. As long as the Saints can keep this one close, Nacua could be streaking up and down the field all afternoon. WR: George Pickens, Steelers at Bengals ($7,400) George Pickens is the second wide receiver in this lineup and he is Russell Wilson's stacking partner. Matchups with Cam Taylor-Britt and Josh Newton should have you foaming at the mouth. Pickens is a big play waiting to happen and we should see a few of them against a depleted Cincinnati secondary. WR: Calvin Ridley, Titans at Commanders ($6,800) Speaking of a big play waiting to happen, Calvin Ridley has regularly struck for explosive plays this season. Ridley is as volatile of a fantasy player as it comes. He has an aDOT of 16.3 yards and is catching passes from Will Levis, both of which drive his boom-bust nature. He sees a steady dose of deep targets (targets with 20-plus air yards), 2.0 per game to be exact, and whether he converts on these looks largely dictates his fantasy output for the week. Ridley does not have a single game this season with 10-plus FD points in which he failed to haul in a deep target. Ridley's fantasy production hinges on these big plays, but these plays have led to 20-plus FD points three times this season. We'll be chasing that ceiling this week. TE: Dawson Knox, Bills vs. 49ers ($5,000) Dalton Kincaid did not practice to open the week; considering this is coming out a bye week, this is a bad sign for his Week 13 availability. This opens the door for Dawson Knox to be a budget-friendly option at tight end yet again. Knox posted a 4/40/0 stat line on six targets last week in relief of Kincaid. He offers a reasonable floor, but we'll need a touchdown for Knox to reach his ceiling. At the end of the day, the floor-ceiling combo is fair at just $5,000. FLEX: Brian Thomas Jr., Jaguars vs. Texans ($6,700) Brian Thomas Jr.'s fantasy value has been on a sharp decline in the last month. His fall has largely been driven by the absence of quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Luckily for Thomas, Lawrence returned to practice this week and could be back on the field against the Texans. Thomas not only benefits from the return of Lawrence but will also reap the rewards of the lack of receiving talent in Jacksonville. With Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis done for the year, Thomas will be running routes alongside Parker Washington and Tim Jones for the foreseeable future. At this point, it seems that a weekly 25-percent target share is the expectation for Thomas. His projected volume and playmaking ability make him an appealing option at this price. D/ST: Tennessee Titans, at Commanders ($3,300) Prior to the nonsense of the final six minutes of the game, the Washington offense looked rather inept against the Cowboys. Through more than 3.5 quarters, Jayden Daniels was held to 92 passing yards, and the Commanders struggled to get anything going. The Washington offense is on fraud watch and we'll be playing into that this week. Learn more >DETROIT — Fifty years later, a man who grew up in suburban Detroit tried to return a very overdue baseball book to his boyhood library. The answer: You can keep it — and no fine. Chuck Hildebrandt, 63, of Chicago said he visited the public library in Warren while in town for Thanksgiving, carrying a book titled "Baseball's Zaniest Stars." He borrowed it in 1974 as a 13-year-old "baseball nut" but never returned it. Chuck Hildebrandt of Chicago holds the book "Baseball's Zaniest Stars," which was due Dec. 4, 1974, at the Warren, Mich., library, on Dec. 10. "When you're moving with a bunch of books, you're not examining every book. You throw them in a box and go," said Hildebrandt, who lived in many cities. "But five or six years ago, I was going through the bookshelf and there was a Dewey decimal library number on the book. 'What is this?'" Inside the book was a slip of paper indicating it was due back at the Warren library on Dec. 4, 1974. Hildebrandt told The Associated Press he decided to keep the book until 2024 — the 50th anniversary — and then try to return it. He figured the library might want to publicize the long overdue exchange. Chuck Hildebrandt of Chicago shows the library slip in the overdue book "Baseball's Zaniest Stars" on Dec. 10. He said he recently met library director Oksana Urban, who listened to his pitch. Hildebrandt said he hasn't heard anything since then, though Urban told the Detroit Free Press that all is forgiven. "Some people never come back to face the music," she said of patrons with overdue books. "But there was really no music to face because he and the book were erased from our system." So "Baseball's Zaniest Stars" is back on Hildebrandt's shelf. In return, he's now trying to raise $4,564 for Reading is Fundamental , a nonprofit literacy group. The amount roughly represents a 50-year overdue library fine. Hildebrandt seeded the effort with $457. The Major League Baseball draft is unique among professional sports drafts. The 30 organizations pick teenagers and college students who will not join their big league clubs for years—if ever. These athletes will spend that time honing their craft in the minor leagues, where long bus rides and minuscule paychecks are the norm. A few will move quickly up the ranks, seizing playing time opportunities to advance their careers and making their names known to scouts, fans, and other observers around the country. Some of the best will become MLB stars, but there's minimal correlation to draft position. Four of the players on this list were picked after hundreds of other diamond darlings, and only two were #1 overall selections. There's also more than a handful who didn't do much for the teams that drafted them, including superstars such as Nolan Ryan, Ozzie Smith, and Randy Johnson. Each of these players was traded before they evolved into Hall of Famers. Still, calling the draft a "crapshoot" might be going too far. College players are " slightly more likely " than high schoolers to reach the revered stadiums of the majors, and third-rounders have a better chance than fifth-rounders, for example, though the margins are slim, as Vice reported. Teams not only make picks based on years-in-advance projections but also whether they can sign players, a step that must be completed before those youngsters begin playing professionally. To see how clubs have fared since the inaugural draft in 1965, ATS.io compiled a list of the best draft pick by each franchise using data from Baseball Reference . The players were ranked using career wins above replacement , so not one recent choice was named. The amazing Mike Trout, a 32-year-old selected in 2009, is the youngest player. Unsigned picks were not considered, and players who were traded as picks were credited to their acquiring teams.
