He went on to say that Tshabangu was one of them and they would work with him. Because it was his signature that was recognised by all institutions, the faction did not challenge several appointments to represent the party in Parliament. Now, the CCC faction led by Professor Ncube accepted Tshabangu’s self-appointment to Senate, self-appointment as the Opposition Leader in Parliament, self-appointment as the leader of the CCC in the Senate, self-appointment as a member of the Parliament Standing Rules and Orders Committee, self-appointment as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Delegation, appointment of Honourable Lynnette Karenyi-Kore as leader of the opposition in Parliament, appointment of Honourable Edwin Mushoriwa as Chief Whip in the National Assembly and the many other appointments that he made, why are they worried when Sebenzo Tshabangu re-shuffles what he appointed, and promises to recall those members of Parliament and Senators who do not bend to his whims? Do these colleagues only see bad things when they are done to those of their inner circles? According to the media, Charlton Hwende was the only Member of Parliament who raised a point of order protesting the announcement of Tshabangu’s appointments. Hwende reportedly walked out of the house in protest. Many people have accused Professor Ncube of being a Zanu PF plant within the opposition, but I beg to differ. My assessment of Professor Ncube is that he is not political leadership material. He is politically blind and does not scan the political environment to determine what to do or say when it matters most. In this instance, he accepted the powers bestowed on Tshabangu by Zanu PF. He thought he could tame Tshabangu, but now it’s blowing on his face. I hope Professor Ncube and his colleagues in the CCC faction he leads learn from this experience and must retrace their political steps and correct their past if they genuinely want to be considered as genuine fighters for democracy who want to help liberate the country from Zanu PF oppression and repression as they claim to be. For Professor Ncube as a legal mind, he should know that the MDC Alliance Gweru Congress which elected him as an MDC Deputy President was nullified by the Courts, so he should educate himself first that the claim of acting presidency based on a nullified Gweru MDC Alliance Congress is a nullity. After that, he can educate his colleagues who took positions in the CCC faction that he leads that they legally have no right to claim those positions. There is the leadership arrangement that the CCC faction led by Jameson Timba is using, which acknowledges that following the High Court decision which failed to uphold the claim to MDC Alliance leadership elected at the Gweru Congress, the positions elected at the Gweru Congress were no longer officially acceptable. This sounds like a more appealing argument, given that some of the people who participated at the Gweru Congress had gone with Douglas Mwonzora. It would make sense that those who signed for the CCC’s participation in the 2023 elections were in charge. For those who had played down the notion that Tshabangu is a Zanu PF implant and embraced him and his signing powers as announced at the Press Conference fronted by Professor Ncube, the truth is now there for all to see. Despite the High Court challenge to Tshabangu’s latest reshuffle of representatives to hold various positions in Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament is said to have announced the changes made by Tshabangu. I understand that a similar challenge by the faction led by Jameson Timba to prove that Tshabangu has no authority to claim a position in the CCC does not hold water and is still pending in the courts. I would want to encourage all the people who have been involved in the CCC leadership to seriously reflect on this opinion piece, do some soul-searching, and if they find something useful, reach out to each other to strategize to rescue Zimbabwe from the jaws of dictator Zanu PF. Given the latest developments, those who had blamed Advocate Nelson Chamisa for everything that went wrong may be starting to believe he was right. I believe he saw these things coming. I am told that after the 2023 elections, he rallied his MPs to withdraw from Parliament, but for various reasons, most did not agree with him. In my view, Advocate Chamisa remains the best foot forward for Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, those who have clashed with him may be too proud to admit it, so he must work with those who trust his vision to launch a new offensive to free the oppressed people of Zimbabwe. I hope those who questioned the strategic ambiguity which was meant to ostracise the likes of Tshabangu will now see the young politician’s political acumenship. It was that political acuity that made the CCC secure more seats in 2023 than those amassed by the MDC Alliance in 2018, even though Zanu PF had tripled the level of rigging in 2023, to the extent that for the first time in the history of Zimbabwe, African election observers confirmed that the election was not free and fair. Food for thought Kennedy Kaitano, MutareVice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla is the Chief of Naval Staff, he was appointed to the position by President Tinubu in June 2023. A seasoned navigator, he is expected to lead the Nigerian Navy in manning Nigeria’s vast maritime frontier which stretches a formidable 84,000 nautical miles, with over 3,000 lakes and rivers, the former equating with a third of Nigerians landmass. This herculean task demands a leader that is determined, disciplined, with a wealth of experience and exceptionally focused vision, to harness the potentials in both the Maritime Sector and develop the nation’s Blue Economy, who also appreciates the imperatives of building the capacity of the Nigerian Navy to secure its maritime environment, as well as extend it to the Gulf of Guinea CNS Ogalla may not command all the salient qualities demanding of his formidable and highly demanding office. No one, even him nor President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who appointed him, genuinely expected that he possess such conspicuous qualities. Ikechukwu simply came in unexpectedly, simply put the current CNS came on board as a dark horse. His emergence was greeted with mixed reactions. Not many believe in his capacity, and his capability to deliver just as the C-in-C knew. But today he has proven many wrong. Ogalla has shown that, one’s ethnicity is not what is required to deliver on a job like this. He has proved that contrary to misconceptions about him, he is a man prepared for the job. Under the leadership of CNS Ogalla, the Nigerian Navy maritime security made significant improvements in legitimate shipping activities due to reduction of crimes in Nigerian waters, leading to appreciable rise in oil production and progressive decline in oil theft and illegal oil bunkering activities. Ogalla through the annual sea inspection exercise has made giant strides in positively impacting on the readiness for combat operations of the naval personnel, which also has exposed other maritime agencies to the benefits of interagency cooperation. This has led to positive rise in oil production as several companies have reported 100 per cent terminal factor. The sustained presence of Nigerian Navy ships at sea, deployment of technology for surveillance, improved inter agency collaboration and international partnerships as facilitated by exercises such as DEIN ABAJI which translates to ‘Calm Waters’ in Kalabari dialect, has led to unprecedented breakthroughs as well as curb maritime threats in line with the statutory roles of the Nigerian Navy which include protecting the maritime environment for national economic prosperity, and supporting existing domestic and regional maritime security initiatives. Ogalla utilized his comprehensive strategy; the Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy (TSMS), and his vast knowledge of the maritime domain and tactical operations to tackle maritime crimes and promote economic growth. This holistic agenda which includes the designation of Special Courts for Maritime Crimes, Advocacy Campaigns to enlist community support, and Socioeconomic Crime Prevention Strategies, also focuses on enhancing naval capabilities through fleet renewal, operational readiness, and infrastructural development, and the prioritization of human capital development through personnel welfare and motivation, manpower training, and youth and sports development has greatly impacted on the Nigerian Navy. Part of his strategy of is to effectively implement a robust maritime stakeholders’ engagement and interagency cooperation. By implementing these measures, the CNS aims to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime interests, promote economic growth, and enhance regional stability. Through this robust confidence-building, partnership and interagency relationship dialogue, he initiates the various security outcomes within Nigeria’s maritime domain and the littorals, including land-based engagements in fulfilment of national interest. The synergy has led to intelligence sharing amongst various agencies such as NIMASA, NPA, NDLEA, NOSDRA, and NEMA, as well as many foreign bilateral meetings and talks with the American Chief of Naval Service, Operation (CNO), and also enhanced trust, confidence building, synergy and operational successes. A strong believer in a highly motivated professional naval force, CNS Emmanuel Ogalla, set in various measures and alternatives aimed at maintaining and equipping a professionally competent and ethical naval force, which will leverage on all the elements of national powers to effectively defend Nigeria’s maritime area against all forms of threat and deliver the imperatives of national security. In order to give action to his words, the CNS carried out various practical reforms and projects aimed at recapitalizing the Naval ship, one of such is the re-equipping of the Naval Shipyard Limited to construct and fabricate small boats, big vessels and other facilities of the Navy, has eliminated capital flight and encouraged the training and development of skilled manpower not just within the Navy but as a means to entrepreneurial development and self-employment. This move has in no small measure reduced capital flight and enhanced, as well as encouraged the training and development of skilled manpower. As part of his commitment and dedication to the welfare of his personnel, Vice Admiral Ogalla conducts frequent inspection and supervisory tours of the various Naval ships aimed at fostering closer ties, as well as establishing the welfare of the personnel. Those visits served as a morale booster and helped to motivate the personnel, as it equally becomes an avenue for having firsthand knowledge of the conditions of the personnel. The visit has been adjudged to greatly increase the morale of the officers and men, as well as a forum for a one-on-one with the CNS. For instance, in one fell swoop operation, within three months, the Nigerian Navy recorded a debilitating breakthrough against the criminals, leading to the seizure of 95 wooden boats, 119 de-activated storage tanks refining ovens, 447 deactivated dugout pits, 120 deactivated Illegal Refining Sites, 13 seized fibre boats, 9 seized vehicles, 74 arrested suspects, and 14 arrested vessels including MT KALI, MT HARBOUR SPIRIT, MT SAISNIL, MV TOKITO, MT VINILLARIS and MT SWEET MIRI, among others. Some of the arrested vessels include MT KALI, MT HABOUR SPIRIT, MT SAISNIL, MV TOKITO, MT VINILLARIS, and MT SWEET MIRI. The Nigeria Navy under his watch, has shown avowed commitment to the ideals of the Tinubu Presidency, by supporting land operations in all the geopolitical zones of the country, winning the war against evil and ensuring a crime-free Nigeria through the strategy of Maritime Domain Awareness Capacity, he strategy has also compelled naval personnel to civility, and activated deterrent measures to curb negligence and unprofessional conduct of personnel but also provided all year-round situation awareness of Nigeria’s maritime domain extending to the limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone. With the capitalization of 2 XSeaward Defense Boats (SDB); constructed locally, the various Platforms, thereby ensuring and supporting its anti-piracy, anti-CoT, anti-IUU and anti-illegal drugs, combined with the acquisition of 2nd Offshore Survey Vessels, 2 by 32m FPBs and helicopters (NNS CHALAWA, P196-Seaward Defense Boat, NNS ZUR P195 – Seaward Defense Boat and NNS OCHUZOR Survey Vessels and the delivery of 2 by 76m OPVs from Turkey, the Nigeria Navy remains the most dominant in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) and the 4th largest in Africa. Presently, under Vice Admiral Ogalla, the Nigerian Navy has over 50 capital ships and several hundreds of boats to cover the maritime space and internal waters. While the capital ships are used to patrol the sea, the small vessels carry out routine patrols also. His non-kinetic approach has brokered several peace initiatives amongst communities and deepened community-military harmony within Nigeria’s Oil/Gas littoral area. Not leaving out the welfare of the personnel, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has also demonstrated leadership and empathy by ensuring the construction of 50 units of 3 bedrooms, 128 units of 2 bedrooms and 120 units of 2 bedrooms apartments in Galadimawa, Asokoro Abuja, Lagos, Calabar and Port-Harcourt. With an eye on sustainability, intellectual development and research, the Chief of Naval Staff on the 1st of June, 2024 launched the International Maritime Institute (IMION), an institution which will serve as a confluence for maritime discourse, the scintillation of ideas, and a vehicle for the articulation of maritime strategy on the African Continent. With the launch of this crowning glory, the CNS intends to decimate, with a single shot, an institution which will also serve as a think-tank for maritime strategic thinkers, practitioners and allies with a far-reaching benefit of enhancing effective interaction, idea sharing and research into maritime strategic affairs affecting not only the Gulf of Guinea but the rest of the world, in such thematic areas as, maritime and ocean governance, maritime security, law enforcement, hydrography, blue economy, and climate change amongst others. Under Ogalla’s visionary leadership, Nigeria’s war against oil theft has witnessed unprecedented success. His bold strategies, collaborative approach, and commitment to personnel welfare have transformed the Nigerian Navy into a formidable force. The Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy has yielded remarkable results, significantly boosting national security and contributing to global maritime stability. Ogalla’s efforts have solidified his legacy as a champion of maritime security and economic growth, earning the confidence of Nigerians and international partners alike. It is instructive to note that the FALCON eye system of the Nigerian Navy is a state-of-the-art surveillance facility that incorporates various sensors located along the nation’s enormous coastline, such as Radars, long-range Electro Optic Systems with thermal or night vision capability, Automatic Identification System receivers, Weather Stations and marine Very High-Frequency Radios for communication. The device consists of over-the-horizon radars with a range of 200 miles, long-range electro-optical systems with a range of 30 miles, and automatic identification system (AIS) receivers. These are linked to three regional control centres and a network operations centre to provide real-time situational awareness of the country’s waters. The integration of these technologies has led to the generation of real-time situational awareness of the activities of vessels in the Nigerian maritime domain and some selected parts in the Gulf of Guinea. Presently, the deployment of technology has assisted in attaining real-time aerial surveillance. Drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors can provide continuous aerial surveillance of pipelines, oil facilities, and surrounding areas, capturing real-time data and visual feeds. Drones can capture detailed images and videos, allowing for the identification of unauthorized activities, potential threats, and illegal taps on pipelines, all of these enhance rapid response. In the area of criminal detection, prevention and deterrence, with detection being the key reason for the deployment of the technology, early detection and deterrence can be easily and promptly achieved. Early detection, advanced sensors and AI algorithms are now effectively and efficiently used to detect anomalies such as leaks, illegal taps, and unauthorized movements along pipelines thereby preventing wastages and the dangers of scooping and its potential risk. Thermal imaging by drones equipped with thermal cameras is also used to identify heat signatures from illegal activities or equipment tampering, even in low visibility conditions such as nighttime or dense vegetation, this has become a potent tool for deterrence, while the physical visible presence of drones also acts as a deterrent to potential thieves, reducing the likelihood of thefts. While in flight, drones programmed to send automated alerts can automatically alert security personnel and local authorities upon detecting suspicious activities, enabling rapid intervention. The deployment of innovative mandatory of the technology has led to an unprecedented high level of safety for all personnel and minimization of access to hazardous areas, thereby reducing the risk of injury or exposure to toxic substances and dangerous situations including armed attacks by oil thieves. Instead Naval personnel can now monitor and respond to incidents from a safe distance, enhancing overall safety and minimizing direct human involvement. All these leads also to overall cost efficiency, the strengthening of the operational capacity of the Navy and the enhancement of its capability to keep personnel abreast of global trends relating to evolving technological advancements in the maritime industry, as well as maintain a competitive edge during operations. Aside, the use of AI has greatly improved the Nigerian Navy’s decision-making processes, such as predicting the most fuel-efficient way to operate a vessel and has also affected the ship’s navigation system, radar operations or threat-detection systems to help operators’ process information faster, effectively respond to a range of maritime threats such as illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU); drug smuggling; and piracy, eliminating the loss in revenue suffered annually by Nigeria of about $70 million to IUU fishing perpetrated by a host of foreign fleets, mostly Chinese. Part of the achievements of the automatic mode is that the CMS can detect a target and identify, classify and prioritize targets before deploying weapons, although people are involved in decisions about when and how to use weapons. As part of another landmark breakthrough, the CNS has established an overarching control facility at Naval Headquarters in Abuja. The Command-and-Control Centre is filled with television screens on one wall, directly faced by at least a dozen individual workstations for monitoring the sensors. The Command-and-Control Centre is to enable the Nigerian Navy generate a comprehensive intelligence picture of activities within the maritime environment. This can thereafter be analyzed in appropriate cases, dispatching a Nigerian Navy ship for interdiction, investigation, and/or subsequent arrest of erring vessels. The various operations with clear mandate to tackle Crude Oil Theft (COT), Illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism and a host of other criminalities on the nation’s maritime area have significantly disrupted oil thieves and vandals, leading to the recovery of substantial amounts of stolen products and the dismantling of illegal refining sites, with the recovery of massive quantities of stolen products, the dismantling of Illegal Refining Sites, arrest of suspects, and seizure of stolen products, are clearly eloquent testimonies of a determined result-oriented leader. Today, the Nigerian Navy is at its highest state of operational readiness and ranks as the 4th largest Navy in Africa. Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s footprints are clearly on the rock of time, as a clear case of not judging a book by its cover. Adebayo is a maritime communication expert based in Abuja.

As of writing, it is trading at $3,873.28, increasing 25.05% within the past 30 days. Its path from a $0.4209 all-time low (ATL) in 2015 to an all-time high (ATH) of $4,891.70 in 2021 shows a fantastic 920,143.38% rise. Now, a Nasdaq analyst sees comparable promise in Rexas Finance (RXS), an upstart crypto asset priced at just $0.15 during its presale period. This analyst forecasts RXS to reach a $73 ATH by 2025, a startling 48,566% growth commensurate with Ethereum's explosive climb. Rexas Finance Presale: A Record-Breaking Start Rexas Finance's outstanding presale performance has attracted investors. Initially released in early September 2024, the RXS token price has surged 400% from $0.030 in stage 1 to $0.15 in stage 10. Thus far, sales of 352,241,301 RXS tokens have raised $28,961,537. With stage 10 currently, 92.74% filled, the presale is moving to stage 11, where the price will rise to $0.175 before starting at $0.20 in early 2025. Rexas Finance has embraced a community-oriented strategy, unlike many initiatives depending on venture money. Rexas Finance has created a devoted and passionate community by involving personal investors and eschewing venture capital financing. Its exposure has also been greatly improved by listings on CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko, which let investors monitor the coin in real-time. Using a Certik audit, Rexas Finance guarantees security and openness for investors. This vital turning point increases the project's legitimacy and confidence. Moreover, in early 2025, the RXS token will be introduced on three of the toer-1 cryptocurrency exchanges, facilitating extensive adoption and liquidity. Revolutionizing Real-World Asset Tokenization Rexas Finance is a breakthrough platform that bridges the gap between blockchain technology and actual assets. It is not just another altcoin. The platform's users tokenize real estate, goods, artwork, and collectibles, among other things. Tokenization has excellent market potential, given the global real estate market, valued at $379.7 trillion, and commodities like gold, valued at $121.2 trillion. The Rexas token builder allows users to tokenize their assets without writing a single line of code. This easy-to-use technology enables people and companies to create, exchange, and own digital representations of physical objects. The opportunities are almost unlimited, whether it's fractional shares or whole ownership. The Rexas Launchpad improves the ecosystem even more by allowing initiatives to generate money through token sales. Rexas Finance removes the obstacles historically separating actual assets from blockchain networks by streamlining fundraising and asset tokenization. Supporting several token standards, including ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155, Rexas Finance guarantees adaptability and interoperability among several usage scenarios. Rexas Finance started a $1 million RXS giveaway to celebrate its success. With 548,722 entries thus far, 20 lucky winners will each receive RXS valued at $50,000. Completing tasks and distributing the giveaway on the Rexas Finance website will increase participants' chances. This program also honors early supporters and encourages further community involvement. Growth Projections: The Sky’s the Limit The path of the RXS cryptocurrency reflects the early days of Ethereum. With one billion tokens overall, Rexas Finance is ready to serve a large and varied market. Currently valued at $0.15 as of writing, analysts project that RXS might reach $73 by 2025. A strong ecosystem, community-driven approach, and strategic alliances with tier-1 exchanges help support this prediction. The ongoing presale presents investors with an unusual chance to enter early. As the presale moves to its last round, RXS’s token price will rise by 20% to $0.175 before launching at $0.2. Time is running out for investors to grab RXS at these lowered rates as one stage remains. The fast success of the presale and the analyst's $73 price target highlight the great possibilities of RXS. Rexas Finance (RXS) could reflect Ethereum's early surge with a 48,566% increase prediction by 2025. Rexas Finance (RXS) presents a strong argument for investors looking for the next great prospect to join the presale before the last stage closes and RXS launches at $0.2 in early 2025. Elon Musk has 12 kids with three different partners but he’s managing to carve out quality time with the president-elect’s youngest son, Barron, as they gush about about planets and video games. The two bros apparently first hit it off at the the Trump family’s Thanksgiving dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Musk has become something of a fixture. Musk sat at Donald Trump’s table with the president-elect and his 18-year-old son. Musk and Barron got down over outer space, said Musk’s mom, Maye Musk, who was also at the holiday dinner. “ Barron and Elon were talking planets ,“ she told Fox Buisiness host Neil Cavuto Thursday. ”They were discussing all the different planets and why Mars is the best place to start a new civilization. And I was very impressed with him, too,” she added, meaning Barron. “They were talking all night,” she later added on X. “Barron is very smart.” Elon later reported on X that he and Barron were discussing ”consciousness and video games.” Barron has reportedly been largely socializing with his classmates at New York University via the internet from his Manhattan Trump Tower home as they play video games. Gov. Gavin Newsom is already planning on pushing back against President-elect Donald Trump's policies derailing the current administration's green energy push. President Joe Biden implemented a tax credit of up to $7,500 to incentivize the purchase of greener vehicles, but Trump is reportedly planning to ax the tax credit when he assumes office, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Newsom, in a statement Monday, revealed that he will offer the same EV rebate for Californians in the case that Trump gets rid of the credit. "We will intervene if the Trump Administration eliminates the federal tax credit, doubling down on our commitment to clean air and green jobs in California. We’re not turning back on a clean transportation future — we’re going to make it more affordable for people to drive vehicles that don’t pollute," the governor added. "We have to be candid about the reality of the incoming U.S. administration," she said at a news conference in Toronto on Friday. Freeland described the Trump administration as proudly economic nationalist. She said there is a global fight for capital, investment and the jobs they bring, and Canada needs to be assertive in fighting for capital. "We need to own the podium and say Canada is a great place to invest," she said. Freeland promised to elaborate on those comments in the government's fall economic statement, which is scheduled to be released on Monday. The federal and provincial governments are working out how navigate Trump's threat to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all imports from Canada when he takes office in January. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met on Wednesday with Freeland, Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and the country's premiers. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said after the meeting that Ottawa is preparing retaliatory tariffs. He also threatened to restrict electricity exports from Ontario, while an official in his government floated the idea of effectively barring sales of American alcohol. Not all provinces are planning a similar approach. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said that "under no circumstances will Alberta agree to cut off oil and gas exports." Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said his government isn't interested in stopping the export of energy to the U.S., while Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew would not directly say whether his province would threaten to withhold hydroelectric exports. Speaking earlier in the week, Freeland said the country would take a "Team Canada" approach to the threat of tariffs. "We know that this is a moment when Canada needs to be strong, smart and united," she said. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 13, 2024. Pune: Maharashtra deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar on Monday told his nephew and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar that had he campaigned in the latter’s constituency, it might have jeopardised his victory in the recent assembly elections. Rohit, the grandnephew of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, narrowly retained the Karjat-Jamkhed seat in Ahilyanagar district, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Ram Shinde by a slim margin of 1,243 votes. The uncle-nephew interaction took place during the visit to the memorial of the state’s first chief minister YB Chavan on his death anniversary in Karad. Ajit came face-to-face with Rohit, who was accompanying Sharad Pawar. Congratulating his nephew for poll win, Ajit quipped, “Come, take my blessings. You barely survived (in retaining the seat). Had I held a rally (in Karjat-Jamkhed), imagine what would have happened.” Rohit responded by touching Ajit’s feet, acknowledging him as a “father figure” despite political differences. “In the 2019 elections, he (Ajit Pawar) helped me. Since he is my uncle, it was my responsibility to seek his blessings. In this land of Chavan Saheb, we uphold the tradition and values he established,” Rohit told reporters. When asked about Ajit’s banter, Rohit admitted that his uncle’s political rally might have impacted the outcome. “But he was busy in Baramati and didn’t have time to campaign in Karjat-Jamkhed,” he said, congratulating his uncle for NCP’s performance in the elections. Ram Shinde accuses Ajit Pawar of conspiracy Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Ram Shinde alleged that Ajit orchestrated a “conspiracy” to ensure NCP (SP)’s win in Karjat-Jamkhed. Addressing a press conference, Shinde claimed there was an “undeclared agreement” within the Pawar family, which benefited Rohit Pawar. “Ajit Pawar admitted today in Karad that he didn’t campaign in my constituency. I had messaged him on October 7, requesting dates for his rally, but he deliberately avoided campaigning,” Shinde alleged. Shinde accused Ajit of intentionally staying out of the Karjat-Jamkhed campaign to tilt the scales in Rohit’s favour. He interpreted the NCP chief’s comment — “What would have happened if I had participated in the rally?”— as confirmation of a premeditated strategy to influence the election outcome. The BJP leader criticised Rohit’s political ambitions, pointing out that despite aspiring to become a minister or even the chief minister of Maharashtra, the latter had failed to exercise his voting rights during the assembly elections. Shinde insinuated that the omission was part of a larger political manoeuvre by the Pawar family. Shinde expressed frustration over the alleged “family feud” agreement, which, according to him, had shaped political developments in Karjat-Jamkhed to favour the NCP (SP). “I am a small farmer’s son who has fought against powerful political forces,” Shinde said. “Sharad Pawar entered the assembly in 1967, even before I was born. Yet, I have carved out my political career through hard work, confronting the might of the Pawar dynasty.” Rohit responds Reacting to Shinde’s allegations, Rohit reiterated his respect for Ajit Pawar. “It is our ‘sanskar’ to touch the feet of elders for blessings. Ajit Pawar helped me a lot during my 2019 elections,” he said. While acknowledging that his uncle’s rally might have influenced the outcome, Rohit maintained that Ajit’s focus on his own Baramati constituency prevented his involvement. Rohit dismissed Shinde’s claims of conspiracy, emphasising that the election result reflected the people’s mandate rather than any orchestrated plan. NCP reacts Amol Mitkari, NCP spokesperson, refuted allegations made by Shinde. “All NCP leaders and supporters worked loyally for Mahayuti candidates. In fact, Ajit Dada Pawar asked me to campaign in Karjat-Jamkhed for at least two days, but I was stuck at Morshi so could not do it. It is wrong to make such allegations after the poll results are out.”Engineers present inverse crack-tip element for health assessment of pre-cracked structuresHyderabad: A task force team from the Telangana food safety department conducted raids on dairy manufacturing units in Hyderabad on December 20. Williams' 19 lead East Texas A&M over Abilene Christian 68-67A high-profile barrister who was cleared of misconduct over social media posts has called on the head of the Bar Standards Board to resign. Dr Charlotte Proudman, who specialises in family law, had faced a Bar Standards Board (BSB) disciplinary tribunal over a 14-part Twitter thread criticising a judge’s ruling over a domestic abuse case, saying it echoed a “boys’ club”. However, the five charges against the 36-year-old were dropped on Thursday. In an interview with The Times, Dr Proudman described the position of Mark Neale, the board’s director-general, as “untenable” and said its chairwoman, Kathryn Stone, should also stand down. “They need a change, not just in those two individuals, though, because, of course, it seeps down to the rest of the organisation,” she said. She told the paper she “genuinely” wanted to work with the Bar Standards Board in helping them to understand how misogyny and sexism have impacted women at the bar. However, she said that “under the current leadership, it’s just not going to be possible”. The charges alleged Dr Proudman had “failed to act with integrity” in posting the tweets, that they amounted to professional misconduct, were “misleading” and “inaccurately reflected the findings of the judge” in the case. The women’s rights campaigner was also accused of behaving in a way “which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public placed in her and in the profession”, and that she “knowingly or recklessly misled or attempted to mislead the public” by making the posts. But panel chairman Nicholas Ainley found her tweets are protected under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998 and the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects the right of freedom of expression. He said her tweets did not “gravely damage” the judiciary, which would “put them outside” of Article 10 protection, even if they “might not have been pleasant for any judge to read” or even “hurtful”. “We take the view that the judiciary of England and Wales is far more robust than that,” he said. The panel also concluded that some of the tweets were only inaccurate “to a minor degree” and not to the extent necessary for a charge of a lack of integrity. Speaking after the hearing, Dr Proudman told the PA news agency: “This ruling is a victory for women’s rights and a right to freedom of speech. “The prosecution against me brought by my regulatory body, the Bar Standards Board, should never have happened and I said that from day one. “I criticised a domestic abuse judgment. Everyone should have the right to do that, whether you’re a barrister or not. Our justice system, which I strongly believe in, is robust enough to withstand criticism from me.” She believes her tweets help “foster confidence” in the justice system, adding: “Only that way can we go about building change and a better treatment for all victims, women and children and men who are affected by domestic abuse.” Explaining that the BSB appears to have spent almost £40,000 “of barristers’ money” on instructing counsel in her case, she added: “I think it’s shameful that they’re using our money to pay for, in my view, malicious, vexatious prosecutions which I have no doubt was a personal attack against me as a woman and as a feminist, as an outspoken critic and advocate for women’s rights.” Dr Proudman called for “systemic change” within the board. “They don’t understand gender, they don’t understand diversity, I don’t think they’ve ever heard of the concept misogyny and certainly not institutional misogyny,” she said. “Until they recognise the deeply rooted, entrenched issue of bullying, harassment, sexism at the bar, for which I have suffered relentlessly... and own up to it I don’t think we’re going to see any change and I have no confidence in them.” She told of how male barristers have called her insulting names on social media and made derogatory comments about her. In the posts on April 6 2022, Dr Proudman referenced a case in which her client alleged she had been subjected to coercive and controlling behaviour by her husband, a part-time judge, meaning she had been “unable to freely enter” the couple’s “post-nuptial” financial agreement. Commenting on the ruling by Family Court judge Sir Jonathan Cohen, Dr Proudman wrote: “I represented Amanda Traharne. “She said she was coerced into signing a post-nuptial agreement by her husband (who is a part-time judge). I lost the case. “I do not accept the Judge’s reasoning. I will never accept the minimisation of domestic abuse.” She continued: “Demeaning the significance of domestic abuse has the affect of silencing victims and rendering perpetrators invisible. “This judgement has echoes of (t)he ‘boys club’ which still exists among men in powerful positions.” In the thread, Dr Proudman wrote that the judge had described the relationship of the couple as “tempestuous”, which she argued was a “trivialisation” of domestic abuse. “Tempestuous? Lose his temper? Isn’t this the trivialisation of domestic abuse & gendered language. This is not normal married life,” she wrote.By Stephen Culp NEW YORK (Reuters) -Wall Street turned lower and the dollar gained strength on Wednesday after the U.S. Federal Reserve delivered the expected rate cut, but sent a clear signal that it will ease the pace of further cuts in the coming year. Benchmark Treasury yields moved higher on the news, and the Dow reversed its gains, setting itself up for its tenth consecutive daily loss, its longest losing streak since 1974. As expected, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) cut the Fed funds target rate by 25 basis points at the conclusion of its final policy meeting of 2024. But the central bank also reduced the number of projected rate cuts in the coming year. The policymakers now expect two interest rate cuts by the end of 2025, down from four in September, and set up the likelihood of a pause in January. “The Fed didn’t throw any curveballs, right? They cut as expected, and they’re using language hinting at fewer cuts next year and into 2026,” said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group in Omaha. “The market was holding out hope that maybe there’d be a little more dovishness to the statement, but that wasn’t the case.” In his subsequent press conference, Fed Chair Jerome Powell offered assurances that the economy is strong, inflation as come closer to the 2% goal, and monetary policy is well-positioned to deal with risks. “Let’s not forget, you tend to get knee jerk reactions on Fed Day and then cooler heads prevail the next day,” Detrick added. “The reality is still we have a strong economy and a Fed that is in no means looking to hike anytime soon. There are still cuts, likely coming just a little later in 2025. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 393.11 points, or 0.90%, to 43,056.79, the S&P 500 fell 65.07 points, or 1.08%, to 5,985.54 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 257.77 points, or 1.28%, to 19,851.29. European shares closed modestly higher, buoyed by technology stocks and French automaker Renault, but gains were held in check ahead of the Fed’s rate decision. MSCI’s gauge of stocks across the globe fell 8.93 points, or 1.03%, to 855.09. The STOXX 600 index rose 0.15%, while Europe’s broad FTSEurofirst 300 index rose 2.56 points, or 0.13% Emerging market stocks fell 0.39 points, or 0.04%, to 1,092.81. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan closed lower by 0.05%, to 579.42, while Japan’s Nikkei fell 282.97 points, or 0.72%, to 39,081.71. Yields for 10-year U.S. Treasuries gained after the Fed decision. The yield on benchmark U.S. 10-year notes rose 8.7 basis points to 4.472%, from 4.385% late on Tuesday. The 30-year bond yield rose 6.2 basis points to 4.6406% from 4.579% late on Tuesday. The 2-year note yield, which typically moves in step with interest rate expectations for the Federal Reserve, rose 8.8 basis points to 4.329%, from 4.241% late on Tuesday. The dollar was extended its gains against a basket of world currencies as investors digested the Fed’s revised outlook. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, rose 1% to 108.01, with the euro down 1.07% at $1.038. Against the Japanese yen, the dollar strengthened 0.69% to 154.54. Bitcoin fell back from record highs, having churned upward in the aftermath of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump remarks about setting up a strategic bitcoin reserve. Bitcoin fell 3.13% to $103,105.00. Ethereum declined 3.35% to $3,804.50. Oil prices pared gains but settled higher in the wake of the Fed’s decision. U.S. crude rose 0.71% to settle at $70.58 per barrel, while Brent settled at $73.39 per barrel, up 0.27% on the day.
