NASSAU, Bahamas — Justin Thomas was long off the tee and made a few long putts on the back nine to overtake Scottie Scheffler with a 6-under 66 and build a one-shot lead Saturday over golf's best player going into the final round of the Hero World Challenge. Thomas is trying out a 46-inch driver — a little more than an inch longer than normal — that he previously used for practice at home to gain speed and length. He blasted a 361-yard drive to 8 feet on the par-4 seventh hole and led the field in driving distance. But it was a few long putts that put him ahead of Scheffler, who had a 69. Thomas was on the verge of falling two shots behind when he made an 18-foot par putt on the par-3 12th hole. On the reachable par-4 14th, he was in a nasty spot in a sandy area and could only splash it out to nearly 50 feet. He made that one for a most unlikely birdie, while behind him Scheffler muffed a chip on the 13th hole and made his lone bogey of a windy day. Scheffler never caught up to him, missing birdie chances on the reachable 14th and the par-5 15th. Thomas hit his approach to 3 feet for birdie on the 16th after a 343-yard drive. Scheffler made an 18-foot birdie putt on the 16th to close within one. "I had a stretch at 13, 14, 15 where I felt like I lost a shot or two there, but outside of that I did a lot of really good things today," Scheffler said. Projected as a top-10 draft pick, the 6-foot-5, 212-pound McMillan finished his illustrious career at Arizona with 3,423 receiving yards, breaking the mark set by Bobby Wade (3,351). In three seasons, the Hawaii native also posted the fourth-most catches (213) and third-most touchdowns (26) in school history. Hyderabad: Contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) player Suven Pharmaceuticals Limited, backed by PE player Advent International, is acquiring a 56% controlling stake in US-based NJ Bio Inc for a consideration of $64.4 million. Suven Pharma will shell out $49.4 million to buy out the existing minority shareholders of the Princeton-based company and will make a primary equity infusion of $15 million. The transaction is expected to close before the end of December 2024, with Suven having an option to acquire the remaining stake in the company after five years. The Hyderabad-based company said the acquisition of the premier ADC/XDC (antibody drug conjugates and X-drug conjugates)-focused company will create one of the few CRDMOs (contract research, development and manufacturing organisations) with a US and India footprint and presence across major new modalities like ADC, Nucleic Acid Chemistry, and mRNA. This will enhance Suven's standing as a technology-driven CRDMO offering end-to-end ADC/XDC solutions and position it as a key player in the ADC outsourcing market, which is valued at $2.7 billion and projected to grow at over 25% annually. Suven Pharma said the deal extends its current ADC offering with expertise across payload chemistry, payload-linker synthesis, bioconjugation, and ADC-specific analytical platforms and will also establish its R&D manufacturing base in the strategic US market. Winston entered Cleveland football folklore on Thursday night by leading the Browns to a 24-19 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who had their five-game winning streak stopped. Winston's performance at Huntington Bank Field, which transformed into the world's largest snow globe, not only made him an instantaneous hero in the eyes of Browns fans but added another wrinkle to the team's ever-changing, never-ending quarterback conundrum. In his fourth start since Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles tendon injury, Winston made enough big plays to help the Browns (3-8) get a victory that should quiet conjecture about coach Kevin Stefanski's job. Some wins mean more than others. In Cleveland, beating the Steelers is as big as it gets. But beyond any instant gratification, Winston has given the Browns more to consider as they move forward. Under the guise of offering educational courses and seminars, the individual and his associates provided direct stock buy-and-sell recommendations to clients, collecting fees amounting to ₹17.2 crore. SEBI has barred the influencer from trading in the stock market for a year and ordered a refund of the collected fees, alongside monetary penalties. Advertisement Because of a midweek Christmas, we’re pumping this out early, so no time for pleasantries. I’ll start with the two Christmas Day games. I don’t, as a rule, bet against the Steelers . But if you don’t have that rule, you should take the Chiefs -2.5 . Yes, this would be a perfect spot for them to lose in a short week on the road. But the Steelers are banged up and have hit a lull since disposing of the Browns . Mike Tomlin sounded optimistic that George Pickens (who practiced in full Monday) and other injured players could return this week, so keep an eye out for that. If that happens, I’ll probably take over 43.5. I wanted to take Baltimore -5.5 but decided to play it safe. When they blow out the Texans , you can laugh at me in the comments. Thousands of Afghans on Thursday attended the funeral of the refugees minister, AFP journalists saw, after he was killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul the day before in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group. The Minister for Refugees and Repatriation, Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani, was killed on Wednesday afternoon in a suicide bombing at the ministry's offices in the Afghan capital. Thousands of men, many of them armed, gathered for Haqqani's funeral in his home village of Sarana, in a mountainous area of Paktia province, south of Kabul. The funeral included heavy security, with armoured vehicles, snipers and personnel manning the area and the road from Kabul, which was jammed with hundreds of cars as mourners travelled from surrounding provinces. Senior Taliban officials, including the Chief of Army Staff Qari Fasihuddin Fitrat, and Maulawi Abdul Kabir, political deputy of the prime minister's office, attended the funeral, according to an AFP team on site. The deceased's nephew, the powerful interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, also attended, along with foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. In a speech there, Muttaqi said the latest IS attacks had been planned "abroad", denouncing, without naming them, "countries harbouring" the organisation. "We call on all nations to work together to stop the common enemy, which does not recognise any kind of morality." In September, the Taliban authorities said IS had training camps in Balochistan province of Pakistan, which also regularly faces jihadist attacks. Haqqani, the highest ranked member of the Taliban government to be killed in an attack since their return to power, "was a big loss for us, the system and the nation", said Paktia resident Hedayatullah, 22. "May God protect our other leaders and keep them victorious."
