Fact-Checking Policy Correction policy हिन्दीA team of researchers from Peking University, Kuaishou Technology, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications have made major strides in the field of AI video generation. They have developed a new model, Pyramid Flow, capable of generating high-resolution virtual video imagery at 768p. Unlike many proprietary AI models developed in recent years, the creators of Pyramid Flow have made their model open source, giving developers and users free access to the underlying technology. A breakthrough in AI video generation? The Pyramid Flow model takes a different approach from many of its predecessors by generating videos in multiple low-resolution stages before producing a high-resolution final output. This method reduces the computing power needed to run the model, making it more cost-effective for users. The team claims that the model can produce a five-second video clip at 384p resolution in just 56 seconds. Pyramid Flow is also available as with the developers making the model freely accessible under the MIT License, which means anyone can download, modify, and use the code for personal or commercial purposes. Along with the model itself, the researchers have posted several sample videos demonstrating the quality of Pyramid Flow’s output. The results show highly realistic, detailed imagery, including examples such as underwater explosions creating bubbles and splashing water. Furthermore, the datasets used to train Pyramid Flow, which consist of about 10 million short videos, are also available to the public. The use of open-source datasets in AI video generation has been a contentious issue, with some critics claiming that such practices violate the rights of copyright holders. The research team behind Pyramid Flow has not specifically addressed these concerns, but they do suggest that the model could be a useful tool for fine-tuning open-source material, potentially reducing the need to rely on third-party sources. Australia's regional property markets continue to outperform their metro counterparts, but price growth is cooling. Regional dwelling values rose 1.1 per cent in the three months to October, compared with 0.8 per cent in the cities, according to the latest CoreLogic Regional Market Update. The respective growth rates have softened from 2.3 per cent and 2.2 per cent respectively in the quarter to April. Mining regions in WA and Queensland led the charge, with property values in Mackay, Geraldton and Townsville up 8.8 per cent, 8.2 per cent and 6.6 per cent, respectively. Over the year to October, dwelling prices in each of the three markets surged by more than a quarter, driven by affordability and lifestyle appeal, CoreLogic economist Kaytlin Ezzy said. "But even with the impressive growth, for those with the capacity to service a mortgage, they still remain attainable with medians less than $600,000," Ms Ezzy said. In NSW and Victoria, there were signs of cooling in markets that had run hot during COVID-era tree and sea changes. Seven out of eight Victorian non-capital significant urban areas posted value drops, along with 10 of 21 equivalent regions in NSW. The holiday town of Batemans Bay on NSW's southern coast fell the most with a 2.7 per cent slump over the quarter, followed by Warrnambool on Victoria's southwest coast, where values sunk 2.6 per cent. "There's certainly been a slowdown in demand for these areas and more stock on the market and that's in addition to higher interest rates, cost of living pressures, and limited borrowing capacity" Ms Ezzy said. Over the year, 10 property markets in the southeastern states posted declines, led by a 6.3 per cent fall in the town of Ballarat in central-western Victoria. Regional rental prices grinded 0.5 per cent higher over the three months, but held steady on average across capital cities. As for mortgage affordability, Westpac economists recently joined NAB in pushing expectations of a Reserve Bank interest rate cut from February to May 2025. ANZ and CBA economists still expect the RBA to ease the cash rate for the first time in more than four years in February 2025. The system, set to roll out by February 28, 2025 and was developed in conjunction with Rede Itaú, represents the latest milestone in . that payments will be processed by bringing a mobile phone close to a payment terminal, such as a card machine, leveraging bank accounts pre-linked with Google Wallet. The system communicates through NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. In by the Center for Digital Public Infrastructure, it was revealed that Pix doubled the number of people using digital payments over the course of two years. Mayara Trindade Sano, advisor, department of competition and financial market structure, says: “In 2019, we launched the instant payments forum and developed it in a very participatory manner with the market. “In February 2020, we launched the brand, which was even inspired by the international lesson that having a unique and strong brand that is easily understood was fundamental for adoption by the population. And in November, we launched Pix for the entire population.” Payment confirmation is achieved through device biometric authentication, such as facial recognition or fingerprint scanning. Since its launch, Pix has redefined Brazil’s payment landscape, facilitating over 71 million Brazilians who, before the launch of Pix, did not use electronic transactions. According to a , digital payments like Pix have enhanced financial inclusion by providing unbanked and underbanked populations with access to secure financial services. Under an open banking framework, Pix’s network supports nearly 800 financial and payment service providers, catering to 13 million businesses. As Pix expands into B2C transactions, Person-to-Business (P2B) payments now account for one-third of its total transactions. Pix’s integration with biometric technology reflects broader trends in Brazil’s adoption of DPI, a model lauded for its scalability and ability to drive economic growth. Pix’s success has drawn comparisons to other DPI models worldwide, including India’s -enabled payment systems. As highlighted in reports by the , Pix exemplifies how a , from reducing transaction costs to enhancing security. Brazil’s approach, in this case, stands out for its public-private collaboration and user-centric design for widespread adoption. Positives aside, Pix has also faced criticism, as the growth in transaction volumes and online account ownership has been accompanied by a rise in cybercrime and fraud cases, according to the Atlantic Council. | | | | | |NPP’s Alfred Boateng Maintains Strong Lead In Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai – Survey Reveals

JACKSONVILLE — Having lost three of four, the Houston Texans could use a break. They might get it before their actual bye week. Houston (7-5) plays at Jacksonville (2-9) on Sunday, the last of 13 consecutive games for the AFC South leader. Given how well the Texans have played against the Jaguars in recent years, this could be the ideal matchup to get coach DeMeco Ryans’ team pointed in the right direction to start December. “It hasn’t been easy,” Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud said. “We haven’t had any time to kind of like breathe. But that’s the NFL; that’s our job. We’ve really got to come back with another week of just hard work, a lot of just grinding because we’re right around the corner from our bye and I think that’ll be a good thing for all of this team.” The Texans have won 11 of the past 13 meetings and 17 of 21 in the series — including five in a row in Jacksonville — since getting swept in 2013. It’s an eye-popping stretch of one-sidedness between longtime division rivals. No one would be surprised to see the streak extended Sunday. The Jaguars have lost four in a row, with the last three being the worst three-game stretch of football in franchise history . Quarterback Trevor Lawrence (sprained non-throwing shoulder), however, is expected back after missing the last two games, and coach Doug Pederson said other changes could be afoot following the team’s bye. But he declined to say whether tweaks included personnel and/or assistant coaching duties. “We’re going to implement some things and really kind of get back to some things that I think were successful, have been successful for us,” Pederson said, “whether it’s rhythm, tempo, whatever, to try to get things going.” Jacksonville likely needs to win out to keep alive its slim hopes of making the playoffs. The Jags have four division games remaining, plus the New York Jets (3-8) and Las Vegas (2-9). “I feel the best I’ve felt in the past few weeks, so I’m excited about it,” Lawrence said. Joe Mixon had a season-low 22 yards on 14 carries last week after running for 109 yards and three touchdowns the week before. Ryans attributed the issues to poor blocking. “We’ve just got to finish our blocks, especially when we’re on the second level,” Ryans said. Mixon ranks third in the NFL, averaging 87.3 yards rushing and now faces a defense that ranks 26th in the league against the run. Many expected Jaguars owner Shad Khan to fire Pederson — and maybe general manager Trent Baalke — following the team’s 52-6 loss at Detroit two weeks ago. Khan kept them in place, probably because Jacksonville has not been eliminated from playoff contention. Nonetheless, the Jaguars have lost 14 of 17 and are guaranteed a losing record for the 11th time in Khan’s 13 seasons. Every previous coach in Jaguars history — Tom Coughlin, Jack Del Rio, Mike Mularkey, Gus Bradley, Doug Marrone and Urban Meyer — have seen their tenures end following a loss to an AFC South opponent. Del Rio, Bradley and Meyer were fired late in the year; Coughlin, Mularkey and Marrone were let go after losing seasons. The Texans tied a franchise record with eight sacks against Tennessee. Danielle Hunter had a season-high three and Will Anderson Jr. added two in his return after missing two games with an ankle injury. “Our rushing duo really raises havoc,” Ryans said. “I think it is really hard on opposing quarterbacks, and we see that in how teams try to protect against us with the chips and trying to slow our guys down.” Houston ranks second in the NFL with 42 sacks. Hunter is second in the league with 101⁄2 sacks, and Anderson is fifth with 9.5 Up next ... Texans at Jaguars When: 1, Sunday, EverBank Stadium TV: None

( MENAFN - The Rio Times) On Thursday, December 26, the Ibovespa index experienced a notable recovery, closing at 121,070.23 points. This marks a gain of 0.25%, effectively reclaiming the 121,000 points lost during the previous trading session. After a brief holiday break for Christmas, investors returned to the market to capitalize on the final trading days of the year. With a light agenda for the day, attention shifted to the U.S. dollar. It closed down after the Central bank intervened by selling $3 billion in the market early in the session. The dollar fell by 0.11%, settling at R$6.18. This intervention is part of the Central Bank 's strategy to meet the demand for dollars from companies and funds needing to make remittances abroad, a common practice as the year draws to a close. In December alone, the Central Bank has actively participated in the currency market through spot dollar auctions totaling $19 billion. It has also conducted additional line auctions amounting to about $11 billion. According to Rafaela Vitória, Chief Economist at Inter, this volume of dollar sales is significant; she noted that the last year with comparable figures was 2020, during the pandemic, when total sales reached $24 billion. Brazil's Stock Market Highlights The day's trading also highlighted some key movements within individual stocks. Americanas (AMER3) and CVC (CVCB3) faced substantial declines, dropping by 10.40% and 8.39%, respectively. Conversely, shares of IRB (Re) surged impressively, closing up by 11.25%. This increase follows a report from BTG Pactual released on December 23, which identified IRB as one of its top investment picks for 2025. As we reflect on these developments, it becomes clear that market dynamics are influenced by macroeconomic factors. Additionally, individual company performances play a significant role. The actions of the Central Bank are crucial in stabilizing currency fluctuations while providing necessary liquidity to meet year-end demands. The resilience shown by Ibovespa amidst these fluctuations underscores the ongoing complexities and opportunities present in Brazil's financial landscape. Republican Gov. Jeff Landry called it “game-changing” for his state’s expanding tech sector, yet some environmental groups have raised concerns over the amount of energy it would use — and whether it could lead to higher energy bills in the future. Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, is expanding its existing supercomputer project in Memphis, Tennessee, the city’s chamber of commerce said Wednesday. The chamber also said that Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro Computer will be “establishing operations in Memphis,” without offering further details. Louisiana is among a growing number of states seeking to lure big tech firms in need of energy-intensive data centers with tax credits and other incentives. The U.S. Commerce Department found that there aren’t enough data centers in the U.S. to meet the rising AI-fueled demand, which is projected to grow by 9% each year through 2030, citing industry reports. Meta anticipates its Louisiana data center will create 500 operational jobs and 5,000 temporary construction jobs, said Kevin Janda, director of data center strategy. At 4 million square feet (370,000 square meters), it will be the company’s largest AI data center to date, he added. “We want to make sure we are having a positive impact on the local level,” Janda said. Congressional leaders and local representatives from across the political spectrum heralded the Meta facility as a boon for Richland parish, a rural part of Louisiana with a population of 20,000 historically reliant on agriculture. About one in four residents are considered to live in poverty and the parish has an employment rate below 50%, according to the U.S. census data. Meta plans to invest $200 million into road and water infrastructure improvements for the parish to offset its water usage. The facility is expected to be completed in 2030. Entergy, one of the nation’s largest utilities providers, is fast-tracking plans to build three natural gas power plants in Louisiana capable of generating 2,262 megawatts for Meta’s data center over a 15 year period — nearly one-tenth of Entergy’s existing energy capacity across four states. The Louisiana Public Service Commission is weighing Entergy’s proposal as some environmental groups have opposed locking the state into more fossil fuel-based energy infrastructure. Meta said it plans to help bring 1,500 megawatts of renewable energy onto the grid in the future. Louisiana residents may ultimately end up with rate increases to pay off the cost of operating these natural gas power plants when Meta’s contract with Entergy expires, said Jessica Hendricks, state policy director for the Alliance for Affordable Energy, a Louisiana-based nonprofit advocating for energy consumers. “There’s no reason why residential customers in Louisiana need to pay for a power plant for energy that they’re not going to use,” Hendricks said. “And we want to make sure that there’s safeguards in place.” Public service commissioner Foster Campbell, who represents northeast Louisiana, said he does not believe the data center will increase rates for Louisianians and views it as vital for his region. “It’s going in one of the most needed places in Louisiana and maybe one of the most needed places in the United States of America,” Foster said. “I’m for it 100%.” Environmental groups have also warned of the pollution generated from Musk’s AI data center in Memphis. The Southern Environmental Law Center, among others, says the supercomputer could strain the power grid, prompting attention from the Environmental Protection Agency. Eighteen gas turbines currently running at xAI’s south Memphis facility are significant sources of ground-level ozone, better known as smog, the group said. Patrick Anderson, an attorney at the law center, said xAI has operated with “a stunning lack of transparency” in developing its South Memphis facility, which is located near predominantly Black neighborhoods that have long dealt with pollution and health risks from factories and other industrial sites. “Memphians deserve to know how xAI will affect them,” he said, “and should have a seat at the table when these decisions are being made.” _____ Sainz reported from Memphis, Tennessee. Frankfurt lost 3-0 at Leipzig, which ended a run of six winless matches — having lost five of those. Bayern lost its third-round match 1-0 at home to defending champion Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. Benjamin Sesko fired Leipzig in front with a delightful goal in the 32nd work after good play from Antonio Nusa. Loïs Openda netted twice in the second half and both goals were also set up by Nusa. Augsburg scraped through to the quarterfinals by beating second-division Karlsruher 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 2-2. Augsburg was on the verge of being eliminated before Rubén Vargas leveled in stoppage time of extra time. Marvin Wanitzek had missed an early penalty for Karlsruher but converted the opening one of the shootout as well as scoring in extra time. All the players converted theirs before Karlsruher midfielder Robin Heußer saw his saved by Finn Dahmen and Maximilian Bauer scored to send Augsburg to the next round. It was tighter in the all second-division match where Cologne needed a penalty in the final minute of extra time for a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin, which had played most of the match in 10 men after defender Deyovaisio Zeefuik was sent off in the 25th minute for violent conduct — having headbutted Timo Hübers and shoved Tim Lemperle. Hertha was 1-0 up at that point but Cologne leveled five minutes later. The 10-man visitors held out resolutely but Cologne denied them a penalty shootout by scoring one of its own, with Dejan Ljubičić converting after teammate Florian Kainz had been brought down by Gustav Christensen. ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer Advertisement Advertisement
